Some people are simply born with a heart for caring. A deep-seated desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Paula Jakavicius is one of those people. With more than 20 years of experience working in the care sector, Paula joins For Care as our new Aged Care Lead and Business Development Manager, bringing not only her expertise but also an unwavering passion for helping seniors thrive.
“I’m all about quality of service, and delivering on what we say we’re going to do,” Paula says.
“I’ve got a lot of passion; I love to help others, especially advocating for people who need help.”
Knowledge, Experience and Genuine Care
The aged care industry is something Paula knows inside and out, having worked in managerial and operational roles, while also coordinating care services for her own ageing parents. She also founded the Logan Dementia Alliance, and has been a deep source of knowledge for many, coordinating community education sessions on aged care services.
One of Paula’s many strengths is her ability to explain the aged care services available to seniors, and how to go about gaining access.
“Unless you’ve spent time in these managerial roles, the language can be really hard to understand, and the ‘My Aged Care’ portal can be hard to navigate, especially if you’re not tech savvy. I love to provide that guidance and education around the services that are available,” Paula explains.
“For example, people come to us and say they’ve received their Home Care Package, and ask how to get started with services … but have they been assessed, approved, or allocated? It can be really confusing,” she says.
“We can really take the time to explain this to people, and get the language right, so they know what to expect, what they can get, and when.”
Fresh Energy
Paula is excited to return to the home and community space with For Care, after a previous role in retirement living.
“I’m so invigorated to help our service to grow – and to work towards programs that bring our community together, and that combat loneliness, which can be a real issue for the older members of our community,” she says.
